I Mum Mum Noodle House in Penang

I Mum Mum, a popular noodle house with their signature pan mee offers a variety of choices for their customers. There is a choice for our desired portion, either small for light eaters or big for hungry customers. Of course the bigger portion is slightly more expensive but it is still very affordable. We can also choose the texture of the noodles too be it thin or thick.

Pan Mee wasn't that popular in Penang and is actually more well known in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of the country. There are not many places in Penang selling Pan Mee but in KL, the stalls are easily available. However, the popularity is catching up in Penang currently. And one of the best pan mee is definitely from I Mum Mum noodle house. :)

The restaurant is always crowded and therefore the seats are pretty limited. Even if we are able to secure the seats, each table will only have a limited and small space in order to cater the big crowd. Not really an ideal place to catch up with friends to chit chat for a long time due to the crowd and noise but definitely a great place for our tummy.

Pan Mee is normally associated with minced pork meat and ikan bilis but I Mum Mum's menu does cater for meatless pan mee too. It comes with a variety and can be generally categorized as soup type, dry type and spicy types.
It was Wesak Day and we went ahead with the meatless options in the menu.

Mushroom pan mee dry type

The dry type of pan mee comes with a soup

There are also side dishes or snacks to order. The one that we ordered was bean curd stick. They are really crispy and taste delicious.

Bean Curd Stick: RM2.12 inclusive GST

Chilli, sambal and sauce that can be taken with the noodles without extra charge

Big crowd as always

There are a few branches of noddle house all over Penang. The prices are definitely affordable, taste is great and portion is reasonable. Highly recommend for those who have not try it before to give it a try in your next eat out or when you visit Penang :)

Vegetarian Corner : Brown Poodle Restaurant at Persiaran Midlands,Pulau Tikus, Penang

Brown Poodle, a vegetarian restaurant located behind Midlands One Stop shopping mall at Pulau Tikus, Penang, is another great place to explore for vegans and vegetarian lovers. The place could be easily found using Waze. That was how we managed to find the place after hearing about it from friends.

As the printing on the door implies, the restaurant does not serve meat dishes. They are all vegetarian meals.

Cute and adorable poodle plushies as decoration with dim lighting.

There are several set meals available which include a main course, soup, and a cup of hot drink. The prices shown in the menu are inclusive of all taxes, the net amount that we need to pay. Add-ons are available as well with a little top up.

Leaves decoration on each table which gives a relaxing feeling.

One of the main course set meals that we had was Tonkatsu rice set. The taste is great but the portion is a little big for a normal eater.

Set E : Tonkatsu rice set RM21.90 nett

Another main course that we had was brown poodle burger platter. For burger lovers, this is a great meal. It is served with fries and salads with fruits and vegetables in it.

Set B : Brown Poodle Burger Platter RM22.90 nett

Third course meal was a charcoal looked type of burger. Black poodle burger platter, the given name for this dish, is similar to the dish above except that this burger is black while the other is brown. The plates are different too. The brown poodle burger platter was served in a square plate while the black poodle burger platter was served in a rectangular one. French fries and salad wise, they were the same. Content inside the burger were similar too.

Set A : Black Poodle Burger Platter RM23.90 nett

The final main course that we had was classic fish & chips. The set came with a few pieces of vegetarian fish, fries, vegetables, and salad.

Set D : Classic Fish & Chips RM21.90

Inclusive in the set meal is tomato soup. Initially, we thought it was a mushroom or pumpkin soup. To our surprise, the soup is actually really nice and tasty. Not too sour which is something that we really liked about this soup. It comes with some small cheese sticks or was it small pieces of bread?

Tomato soup

Lastly, the drinks that came with the set meal that we had were green tea and hot americano. The green tea came with free refill where the staffs will offer to refill if they spotted only little water left. Good and polite gesture from them. Also, note the spoon used. It was a long wooden spoon, something different from others.

Hot Green Tea

The other drink was hot Americano which came with a smiley cookie. We had a choice to either have the Americano served before or after meal.

Hot Americano

Smiley cookie to brighten up our days :)

There are a few bottles of plain water at the counter which customers can have them for free. There are also cups and glass at the counter. Just get the bottle to your table and pour it into a glass. Nice and cute bottle, really.

The utensils such as spoons and forks were put in a wooden box with their shop logo. Looks nice, tidy and clean.

Some of the menu and pricing written on the blackboard with chalk hung at the restaurant.

There are also desserts, snacks, and cakes available in the restaurant.

Some of the seatings available in the restaurant. Recommended to make a booking prior to visiting as the seats are pretty limited.

The restaurant only accepts cash. That means no credit card service available.

Plants outside the restaurant. Nice to see the greens.

There are a few parking lots in front of the shop compound that are reserved for customers parking. So, no worry on the parking issue.

Operating hours:
Weekdays: 11am-10pm
Weekends:10am-5pm
Closed on Wednesdays and public holidays

On a side note, I actually saw them on Groupon whereby the deals were really attractive. But unfortunately, when we decided to buy, the deals had already all sold out. Try to catch the deal for more bargains if you really would like to try this out at a great price. :)

Penang Laksa at Taman Emas, opposite Penang Chinese Girls' High School

Laksa, one of the most famous and tastiest food in Malaysia is often associated with Penang. The reason is simple, Penang has the best laksa in Malaysia. The iconic food in Penang is famous for its special combination of sweet, sour and a little spicy taste of soup with noodles in it. The taste is simply delicious and food lovers will definitely like it. It is a must have food for everyone who visits Penang.

One of the most famous laksa is located at Taman Emas coffee shop, opposite Penang Chinese Girls' High School. The shop is often crowded with customers.

The soup is normally sour in taste and the black paste on the spoon is actually prawn paste which is sweet in taste. Other than that, there are some other stuffs in the soup such as flaked fish, onions, pineapples, mints and etc. If you are more to a sour taste type of person, you should request for less prawn paste and vice versa.

Laksa - RM4.50 small, RM5 big

Pricing wise, it is slightly more expensive than outside. A small bowl costs RM4.50 while a big bowl costs RM5.00. Nevertheless, it is still worth the money for the great taste that everyone is raving about in this shop.

The shop is located at a corner lot, directly opposite Penang Chinese Girls' High School. A hidden little gem indeed.

The Cruises Steak House, Penang

The Cruises Steak House, a western cuisine restaurant, is a great and a must go place for western food lovers. It has two branches in Penang, namely at Bishop Street and Bayan Lepas. The price is reasonable and the food is great with nice environment and live band performance which adds attraction to the place.

We personally went to the two branches before and the photos below were captured from the Bishop Street branch.

Lucky Leave - RM 11.90
The drink in green above is called "Lucky Leave". Recommended by the waitress, we decided to give it a try and to our pleasant surprise, this drink really tastes nice. It is a mixture of four fruits with one of them being Kiwi fruit. Four leaves clover = lucky leave = four fruits drink.

D' Cruises Chicken Chop - RM 19.90
Chicken chop, one of the food that we had, came in a good portion for medium eater. Not too much and not too little.

Lemon Butter Fish Fillet - RM 21.90
Lemon butter fish fillet with the creamy sauce. Good enough portion for most of us.

Banana Split - RM 10.90
Banana split as dessert. One banana is split into half, with three scopes of ice cream in the middle with cream and chocolate chips as toppings. One chocolate stick and a small little paper umbrella are used as the decoration.

Live band performance by a pair of duet. Customers can request for the songs that they would like the band to play or to dedicate a song to someone. Not sure if this is a everyday event. We went on a Saturday night. It is entertaining to listen to the band and a nice place to hangout while relaxing ourselves.

On a side note, we had seen Cruises Steak House having promotion on Groupon for a few times. So for those of you who are interested, can have a look at Groupon deals and try this place out at a really good price. :)
